Day 6:
Day tour to the Perito Moreno glacier, unquestionably one
of the greatest attractions Patagonia can offer. From terrace
vantage points directly opposite the glacier face, one can
observe the thundering breaking off of ice blocks crashing
down into the waters of the vast Lago Argentino below.
Overnight stay same as previous day.
Day 7:
Day tour by boat, visit to estancia Cristina (barbecue) and
the Upsala glacier, the largest of all glaciers flowing from
the patagonian landlocked ice fields of this region. Overnight
stay same as previous day.
Day 8:

4 to 5 hour drive (220km along gravel road) on the legendary
Ruta 40, northwards through the vastness of the Patagonian
steppes, then along Viedma lake towards the mountains up to El
Chaltén. This brand new site is the starting point of all
expeditions to the renowned peaks of Fitz Roy and Torre.
Overnight stay at "El Pilar" inn.
Alternatively: if hiking is not the main objective on
these days, travel along the lake's south coast to the very well
appointed estancia "Helsingfors".
Day 9:
Hiking tour to Laguna de los Tres, at the foot of Cerro
Fitz Roy, the most famous peak of the southern -patagonian
Andes. For three hours we wander through wonderful forest and
mountain landscapes until we reach the base camp Rio Blanco,
with Cerro Fitz Roy and neighbouring granite peaks always in
sight.
We then set
out on a continuous and steep one-hour climb up the moraine
until we reach Laguna de los Tres, directly in front of Cerro
Fitz Roy, a grandiose observation point of the impressive Fitz
Roy. Easy 6-7 hour hiking, which may also be interrupted
after a maximum of 2 hours hiking, specially considering that
from this point on hikers will be feasted with incredible
panoramas of the mountains. Overnight stay same as previous day.

Day 10:
Hiking to Laguna Torre, at the foot of legendary
Cerro Torre, one of the most demanding mountaineering
targets worldwide. Its 1400m high steep walls of flat granite
are proof of this, the climate being the main factor, which is
why mountaineers must often wait for months before the final
assault can be made.
The suggested
hike extends only to Laguna Torre which lies directly at the
foot of the mountain. From here one has breathtaking views of a
series of windswept granite needles and huge glaciers. Easy
5-6 hour hike. This stretch may also be interrupted after
one and a half hours at a first viewing spot. Overnight stay
same as previous day.

Day 11:
Return to El Calafate. Overnight stay at Hotel "Los Alamos" in
the same area.
Day 12:
Drive (about 320km partly on gravel) across the border with
Chile to Torres del Paine National Park. This, as well as
the Fitz Roy area, are the absolute culmination of what
Patagonia has to offer mountain loving visitors. Beautiful
mountain massifs, huge glaciers, innumerable glacier lakes
in a wide variety of colours and a very rich fauna will
leave one with deep impressions.
Fauna:
guanacos (of the llama family), foxes, ñandúes (small ostrich),
black-necked swans, armadillos, skunks and throughout the
mountains various bird types, e.g. condors and eagles. Overnight
stay at "Las Torres" or "Grey" inns.

Day 13:
Hike to the feet of Torres del Paine. The Paine
Towers, world renowned among mountaineers, always present
climbing enthusiasts with a challenge. From the Las Torres camp
site the road climbs steadily, over grasslands at first, then
through southern-beech forest, always along the Ascencio river.
A final steep
climb of around one hour over stone and rock onto the
moraine-front rewards the visitor with a fantastic view on the
vertical granite towers of Torres del Paine. This stretch may
also be interrupted beforehand. Overnight stay same as previous
day.
Day 14:
Short drive through Paine National Park to Lago Grey.
From a peninsular outcrop one has a fantastic view on the
Grey glacier and countless floating icebergs (pleasant short
hike). For hiking enthusiasts there is a 2-hour steep climb to
Mirador Ferrier with enormous views over mountains, lakes and
glaciers. Weather permitting, a boat tour leading directly to
the glacier is possible. Overnight stay same as previous day.

Day 15:
Exploring drive to one of the glacier lakes close by,
where one can particularly well observe the droving of animal
life on the steppes during short hikes. Overnight stay same
as previous day.
Day 16:
Drive back to El Calafate. Overnight stay at "Los Alamos" hotel.
Day 17:
Return of vehicle and flight on to Ushuaia, southernmost
city in the world. Tierra del Fuego features mostly steppe
landscapes but, shortly before reaching Ushuaia, an as yet
unaltered nature makes an appearance, with original
southern-beech forests, lakes mountain chains. A rental vehicle
is
collected here (not necessarily a 4-wheel drive). Overnight stay
at hotel "Las Hayas", with fantastic views of the Beagle
Channel.
Day 18:
In the morning drive to Tierra del Fuego National Park down to
Lapataia Bay, end point of the long Panamerican Highway. In
this
untouched and wild nature of Tierra del Fuego, one
encounters countless wild geese, cormorants and other fauna.
In the
afternoon tour on private motor yacht or sailing yacht on the
Beagle Channel to Isla Lobos (sea lion island) and Isla de
los Pájaros (bird island). With some luck the Darwin Chain will
be visible in the background. Overnight stay same as previous
day.

Day 19:
A drive to Estancia Harberton is possible (about 85km
one way, mostly on gravel). Or simply a day for resting and
enjoyment of the atmosphere over the Beagle Channel.
Day 20:
Return of vehicle and departure to Buenos Aires. Transfer
to the Alvear Palace hotel, dinner and overnight.

Day 21:
Transfer to the international airport and departure flight.
